Fun, Funky and Fantastic...Dave Fetty Crayons Vase
Williamstown, WV - Master glass artisan Dave Fetty has been busy... and he's done it again, creating a fun, funky and fantastic vase for our 2006 Connoisseur Collection! Dave's latest effort, Crayons, is now available. The Crayons Vase is limited to just 750 individually numbered pieces and is marked with Dave's special stamp.
This beautiful vase features swirls of opaque "crayon" colors, and its organic shape is decidedly contemporary. An outer layer of pure crystal is the final touch... Crayons is simply glass craftsmanship at its finest.
The Crayons Vase begins with a gather of our Aubergine glass on a blowpipe. The molten glass is shaped and rolled in a carefully prepared mixture of crushed glass colors called frit. Dave and his team experimented to perfect the combination of colored frit to produce the effect he wanted. Seven different colors of frit are needed, including brown, orange, yellow, two shades of green and two different reds! These colors combine to create one truly magnificent piece!
The unique swirl effects in the Crayons Vase assure that no two will be exactly alike! When we asked Dave just how these swirls were achieved, he smiled, "It's all in the way we reheat this piece in a direct fire furnace called a glory hole." When we asked for more information, he replied with a wink, "That's my secret."
After the Crayons Vase is blown to shape in a mould, Dave uses traditional hand-finishing methods to flare and smooth the topmost edge.
Collectors will love Crayons.
That's no secret!
